Early Vikings Draft Speculation Part Two

So where does that leave the Vikings well here is a position by postion scan of there defensive, and what they need to do:
  1. Defensive Ends: Eramus James is going to be a good end, and Udeze was looking better before his injury. Scott is a run stopping machine and is great on running downs. Spencer Johnson looks better on the inside than the outside and should play DT for the rest of his life. Johnstone is a pass blitzing machine and should be around a couple more years. The Vikings have spent there first round draft picks on DE's so maybe free agency and no draft pick needed.
  2. Defensive Tackles: Pat Williams is a monster that has been a free agency dream, Kevin Williams is getting better after being over weight and slugish. Mosley has looked like a smaller Pat Williams and a suitable backup. Spencer Johnson has been injured and is not as speedy as Kevin but can get the job done. Martin is on injured reserve and needs a miracle to be a Viking next year. I think we don't need to spend a draft pick on the line this year.
  3. Middle Linebackers: Sam Cowart is getting old and sometimes looks slow covering TE's. E.J. Henderson was supposed to be our MLB of the future but looks good on the weak side. Rod Davis is a special teams machine but not a MLB of the future. The Vikings desperatly need to spend a draft pick on a MLB either a 1st through 3rd draft round pick on a MLB.
  4. Outside Linebackers: Keith Newman has been a god sent this year and is our strong side LB, E.J. Henderson plays weak side and he plays it well with the most tackles for LB's. Thomas has had problems and looks like another Ranoell Smith, Smith looks like he is meant for a 3-4 defense and doesn't have the LB senses needed to play in the 4-3, Harris has looked good at some times but mostly has been a huge disapointment. Farwell has looked good and might be a good option in a couple years. We have a lot of OLB's and there starting to Jell together, so no draft pick is needed in this years draft with this many people.
  5. Cornerbacks: Winfield is a tackling machine and a soild corner, Smoot has looked awful, but the boat and Steve Smith have made him look bad. Brian Williams is in a contract year and if the Vikings were smart they would resign him and Koren Robinson. Ralph Brown has looked like a forth corner back and a soild special teamer. After them there are two undrafted players who have looked alright in coverage. I think the vikings need to spend a 6th or 7th round draft pick on a cornerback just in case something goes wrong.
  6. Safeties: Darren Sharper has looked very good in purple, but he is injury prone. Chavous is in a contract year and has looked ok, but has missed some tackles and interceptions, I don't think he will be resigned. Offord looked like the future before he got injuried. Our 4th round draft pick Fox is going to be back next year, but is injury prone also. The Vikings need to spend a 2nd to 5th round draft pick on a safety for the future.
  7. Kickers/Punters: Kluwe is also been one of the best pickups of the years the guy is young and he can punt a mile. Elinger has looked like a promising pickup and has won two games for the Vikings this year. For the first time in 6 years the Vikings don't need to worry about special teams.
So what we got so far:
  1. Running Back or Middle Linebacker
  2. Running Back or Middle Linebacker or Safety
  3. Middle Linebacker or Safety
  4. Quarterback or Center or Safety
  5. Quarterback or Center or Safety
  6. Quarterback or Center or Tackle or Cornerback
  7. Quarterback or Center or Tackle or Cornerback

  1. Middle Linebacker
  2. Running Back
  3. Safety
  4. Quarterback
  5. Center
  6. Tackle
  7. Cornerback
